North Dakota Soil Health Cover Crop Program

Program Description

The Soil Health Cover Crop Grant Program’s primary goal is to address sodic/saline soils through the planting of cover crops. Producers that plant eligible cover crops may receive a payment of $25 acre, with a maximum of 160 acres of their cover crop planting being cost shared. Applicants may hay or graze cover crops.

Producers must soil test fields prior to planting. The ND Department of Agriculture has an online application available on the department website. There is a September 15th deadline for cover crop planting and applications must be submitted by October 1st. Application approval and funding dispersal will be administered on a first come first served basis for eligible applicants within the funding year. The successful applicants will be notified by email.
