The North Dakota Forest Service has 7 unique programs that promote forest conservation, while providing educational and recreational opportunities.

Towner State Nursery
Towner State Nursery
- Supports conservation tree planting efforts
- Trees produced are used primarily in shelterbelts, living snow fences, wildlife block plantings and other conservation plantings
Forest Health
Provides services including:
- Statewide surveys to assess threats to trees and forest resources
- Technical assistance and training for natural resource professionals, arborists and city foresters
- Reports documenting pest conditions
Community Forestry
Ensures the health and well-being of trees in cities and towns through:
- Tree selection
- Proper planting and tree care
- Tree pest surveys
- Workshops
- And more!
Outreach and Education
Administers a statewide PreK-12 education outreach program in order to:
- Raise public awareness about the value of natural resources
- Support informed decision-making
- Foster individual responsibility of conservation in people of all ages
State Forest Recreational Opportunities
The program works to enhance forest, grassland and wetland ecosystems found in state forests
State forests are developed and maintained for the public through:
- Hike and ride trails
- Campgrounds
- Picnic sites
- Fishing
- Berry collecting
- Observation of wildlife and plants
Fire Management
Fire Management Program
- Focuses on the protection of lives, property and natural resources from wildfire
- Provides cost-share funds to rural fire departments to support organizing, training, planning and purchasing fire equipment
Forest Stewardship
Forest Stewardship Program Program
- Provides private forest landowners assistance to support and encourage efforts of active, long-term forest management
