  • Plugs are seedlings grown in small plastic containers.
  • Start by digging holes for each plant; a bulb auger attached to a cordless drill works well.
  • Allow 2 feet between each plant.
  • Weed barrier fabric is a great way to help prevent weeds and conserve moisture when planting your plugs!
  • Cut an “X” into the fabric and plant the plug in the soil.
  • You can make your garden more aesthetic by covering the fabric with wood mulch.
  • If you are planting a large area, using plugs may not be efficient.
  • Instead, use a drill or broadcaster to plant seeds.
  • If using the broadcast method, the seeding rate will need to be doubled.
  • Plant single species in groups of at least 3 or more to make it easier for pollinators to locate their food.
  • An optimal number for group planting is 5-7 of the same plant.
